The call-out to join LASER competitive robotics teams occurs in early June. This meeting is usually announced in advance during May and will be posted to our Calendar and Events pages.
At this meeting we discuss the current challenge, what to expect during the season, the application process & criteria, and season logistics.
Interested students from the call-out meeting are sent a team application form that is reviewed by the LASER operations committee. Teams are formed the week after all applications are received.
The teams' first brainstorming sessions occur at the end of July. Regular season practices (2x weekly for 2 hrs per practice) begin after the brainstorming sessions, typically around the beginning of August.
Regional Competitions are held in the Winter, typically beginning in December and occur monthly through February. Should students qualify during the regular season, merit-based post-season tournaments are in March (States) and May (Worlds). Regional tournaments and States are within a 2.5 hr drive of Louisa, while the host city of Worlds varies year-by-year.
LASER competitive robotics teams participate in the Vex Robotics competitions where students will spend about 9 months working together in small teams to design a robot from scratch to solve a challenge. Here is this year's VEXIQ challenge - "Mix & Match."
Regular Season Practices begin July 31, 2025 on:
Tuesdays & Thursdays
3-5pm & 4-6pm time slots
As a 100% volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit that tries to maintain the lowest rates possible, all registration fees are non-refundable.
